I am a Repurposer. I am one of those gals that believes beyond a shadow of a doubt that creativity is all about using what you have on hand in new and interesting ways. As an instructor, I am fortunate to be able to work with young adults and teens a number of times each month and in various capacities. What is always a real treat for me personally, is observing what they do with the supplies and how they put their mark on what it is they are creating. You may be shocked to know that kids seldom use the products and supplies the way they were designed to be used. Paper is shredded, glued, spray painted, bent, folded, and yes, even burned around the edges sometimes. Things like screening, metal foil, yarn, and even gum (as gross as it sounds) have on more than one occasion ended up in a creative rendering. I am just so grateful to have had the many opportunities to learn at the feet of folks who really are unencumbered by status quo and have no preconceived notions as to what specific supplies should do. I just got word from my publisher that the first book in the “isn’t that crafty” series will be unveiled in the next weeks. Green Purposed is all about using everyday items to tell your story and creating amazing art. I’d like to thank all the kids who helped edit, inspire and participate in the series and encourage everyone else to visit Bluegrass Publishing to get the inside scoop.
