Jessica used loads of sequins, foiling, vellum, thread, twine and an acrylic title for this wonderful mixed media layout. I love how she used blue foils for the waves and the sequins for the crest of the wave, so dynamic! Watch her process video on the Therm O Web blog.
If you want to add some pizzaz to your scrapbook layouts then try using Mixed Media techniques and take your ideas to the next level. So, what is mixed media? Simply put it’s really a combination of using two or more materials otherwise known as mediums. So you can combine products like ink, paint and glitter or techniques like stenciling, stamping or sewing on the same canvas or in our case a scrapbook layout. So let’s take a look at some amazing mixed media layout ideas.
Beneath each photo you’ll see a link, click it to learn more like products used, tips and techniques.
Jil focused on 4 different days on her mixed media layout, using metallic numbers to point to each day. She also used washi paper and tape, chipboard letters, stamping for words and accents and typing for journaling. Take a closer look at The Cherry on Top blog.
This stunning sunset on the beach layout from Jessica uses Distress Inks for color on the background, stamping for words, tiny fish, and date prompts. There’s also hand journaling and pre-printed chipboard images. Find out more at the Kerri Bradford blog.
Monique created an amazing background for her Aquarium layout. She inked Distress Inks, adding shimmer sprays and stamped “bubbles” with bubble wrap for the background. She also used a fish stencil and glimmer paste for added texture. Over top she added the backed die cut and a photo with torn paper matts. Find more details at the Paige Taylor Evans blog.
Nathalie designed the pretty background of this layout with a stencil and embossing paste adding blue watercolor marker refill over top, with some added splatter. There’s also clusters of stamped and die cut flowers and a metallic paper die cut and stamped title. Visit the Altenew blog to check out her process video.
This adorable cat layout from Luciana has lots of fun embellishments like twill ribbon, a metal heart, buttons, lace trim and eyelets. She created the background with stamps, stenciling and waxes. Take a closer look over at the 7 Dots Studio blog.
This wonderful summertime layout from Anastasiia focuses on greens and red with a watermelon theme. She designed a + plus sign with paper strips and rub-ons then built her design up around it with chipboard frames, fussy cut images popped up with foam, dots made with Nuvo Drops and paint splatter. Watch her process video on the Graphic 45 blog.
This fantastic fishing layout from Ronda has washes of watercolor and pattern made with geometric stencils. Paper tearing adds some texture and there’s lots of depth from layering of images and embellishments. Take a closer look over at the Creative Scrapbooker blog.
This terrific travel page from Dorota has so much going on with layers and clusters of wooden shapes and words, vellum doilies, fussy cut images, paper tearing and she still managed to get 5 photos on the page too! I spotted her idea on the Mintay Papers Instagram page.
This darling mixed media layout from Julie has a bold wash of color on the background from Distress Oxide inks and water. She also added a square of stitching, vellum florals, chipboard accents and title, painted with the same inks as the background. Find more details at the Hey Little Magpie blog.
This cool cruise layout from Wendy uses lots of thick acrylic shapes and title. There’s also tags tied with twine, paint splatter and lots of sequins on the background with fussy cut and paper snip images all over top. Find all the details over on the Bramble Fox blog.
And last but certainly not least Paula took her mixed media off the page and onto a beautiful shadow box project. The box is painted with paint and the inside is lined with paper strips with walnut stain added. She covered a thick wooden arch in paper and colored the images with Distress Markers, layering it in the box with scalloped trims. Inside the window is the photo with wooden and metal embellishments. She breaks it all down on the Simon Says Stamp blog.
I hope you’ll take the leap and give mixed media a try on your next scrapbook or paper crafting project!
