Seems nowadays everyone is so overly obsessed with the big “O”- not Oprah, or the other behind closed doors thing, I am talking about Organization. There is probably some scientific journal out there that says an organized workspace is the best thing for mental health, strong bones, a rosy complexion, and brings on world peace…. for me, an overly sterile studio is something akin to the white walls in One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest. I think folks derive their inspiration from random things and, in my case, more than one project here or there was inspired from the patterns of paper bits laying on my desk haphazard, unorganized like.
Art has always been a verb- it is something we do. We do not live in a nice compartmentalized world where everything fits nicely in a labeled box here or there tucked away out of sight- we are people, messy people, with shattered lives and bits and pieces strewn on the floor. It isn’t always neat, tidy, kept, pretty, or perfect. A scrapbook lay-out will never get done if you do not drag the pictures out of the box just like you will never use the stuff you spent all that money on if you keep it squirreled away like some trophy in a glass case. I need my pens where I can see them in front of me, I need a bulletin board cluttered with inspiration, and I need my Moleskine at my fingertips for when those moments where my muse decides to speak. Looks like someone made something else I could use…. I think the one I am going to get will need a bit more color.

Great ideas. Unfortunately, I have a biological disorder that does not allow for scrapbooking and neatness to coexist.
