Prompt

June 23, 2008 by sarah hodsdon

Prompt means all sorts of things I suppose. I always considered it to mean being on time and ready to go….”Promptly and according to schedule.” After spending time with my good friend Carol Duvall on the set (watch the video) of her Art Unscripted retreat, Prompt was associated with a lead-in, a couple words given to get us all back on track while we were filming…. “What was the Prompt?” “Watch the teleprompter…” When Karen Desmet over at Art Declassified introduced me to the “scrapbooking world” prompt took on yet a different meaning….a prompt was a way to start a lay-out, a way to get those creative juices flowing. (Check out Art Declassified’s new stamp designer. It is someone you know ….Donna Downey)

Stay on topic. Seriously folks, sometimes I act more like a flashlight than a laser beam! Prompt in a nutshell is being respectful of time. If you are on time, you are not late and flying by the seat of your pants trying to catch up, if you follow what is on the camera, you won’t screw up and can get it all done before flippin’ midnight when you turn into a pumpkin and, if you have a handy resource to help you get started, your lay-outs can come together much quicker. Time is the most valuable resource you have. Once it is gone, you cannot get it back or manufacture more of it. Here are a couple of “Prompty” type things I found to get you on your way this week.

Claudines new book is designed for Scrapbookers specifically. Now, I do not think the book is out yet but, I know Claudine personally, I know her work, I own her last two books, and despite being known more for “arty collage type” things, I am confident that this will be a useful tool in your studio.

Some other cool resources come from Bluegrass Publishing. Thena Smith has a wonderful book of quotes and sayings to help you and Linda La Tourelle has a whole collection called The Ultimate Guide to the Perfect Word

Then there are places like Inspire of Me Thursday, Illustration Friday, and Michelle Ward’s many blogs….. that will stretch your creative muse and inspire you to do something different! Happy Creating!
