I love working with vintage books, including pages and images from them in my jewelry, collage art, cards and scrapbook layouts so this project from Jessica really struck a cord with me. She created an amazing junk journal from a vintage Little Golden Book that’s all about her dog. A junk journal, if you’re not familiar, is usually a more artsy and collage take on scrapbooking and journaling, including lots of paper “junk” you find in your life including things like labels, tags, book pages, scraps of fabric, anything fairly flat and is a great way to reuse and recycle everyday items.
For her journal finding a vintage book about a dog was the perfect starting point, adding charms, ribbon, twine, beads and string to the binding on the outside. Once she took apart the book she re-bound it and inside she included pages made of pattern papers along with some of the old book pages and decorated them with stenciling, stickers, ephemera, created a few fun pockets and of course photos too.
See more of the journal and watch a video on how to take apart and rebind the book and create the charm strings over on The Cherry on Top blog.
